Introduction

What do these famous faces and voices have in common?

Helen Boaden Victoria Derbyshire Dermot Murnaghan

They all graduated from a BJTC accredited course.

The BJTC now accredits nearly 50 courses at colleges, universities and now commercial organisations. Most are at undergraduate and postgraduate levels at universities all round the UK. Others fall into newly introduced educational qualifications such as Foundation Degrees and Diplomas offered by a range of other organisations. Still more fall into the "Pending" category which means they're likely to be accredited in the near future and meet BJTC criteria in almost all areas. The most usual reason for Pending classification is that the course may not have completed a full cycle (three years in the case of an undergraduate degree in England and Wales) or has not had time to assess their success in the jobs market.

Choosing a course

All courses offer a variation of themes, and it is recommended that you research those that appeal to you, will deliver what you want and which are geographically acceptable as when.

The BJTC would advise would-be journalists to be very clear in their minds about what it is they want to do. You should be aware of fundamental changes in the news industry and the impact the internet is having on different platforms for delivering news. Many employers are now looking for a range of skills to enable recruits to work on "reversioning" stories for "multi-platforms." Individual medium skills are still vital - Radio, TV, Online, Radio and TV - Bi-Media but the process of change continues and is moving towards Multimedia.

Use the drop down buttons above to find more information about individual courses under the five named categories.

Overseas students

Overseas students need to be aware that course fees will be significantly higher if you are from outside the EU and have no UK residency qualification. It should also be noted that BJTC accredited courses are designed specifically for students aiming at the UK jobs market and therefore contain crucial knowledge content such as broadcast based media law, ethics, industry regulation, editorial policy and public affairs, essential for UK job applications

International courses

Many of the colleges and university courses the BJTC accredit also offer International courses, designed for overseas students, which do NOT contain the above knowledge qualifications.

However, the BJTC does not accredit any of these International courses, although many use the same teachers, teaching methods, facilities and equipment as accredited courses.
